Emergency numbers!

My husband and I recently returned home from an extended family visit to discover a flood in our home caused by a burst hot water pipe.  With all our adrenaline flowing, we couldn’t quickly find critical telephone numbers or policy/account numbers.  This project started forming in my mind the very next day.

You’ll notice this is a very simple project.  That’s because the entire thing was made in a hotel room.  I brought my Cricut and very few supplies from home to occupy my time while our floors were drying out at home.

I started with the crayon box page 70 on Tags, Bags, Boxes and More.  On my Gypsy, I unchecked “keep proportions” (the little chain icon under the height and width boxes.)  I stretched the width until box front was about 3.25 inches wide, then stretched the height until the box front was about 5.25 inches high.  The measurements are 8.00 inches for height and 8.28 inches for width.

The brackets are found on page 58 of the Art Philosophy cartridge.  My original thought was to use the “card-shift” image, size the front of the card to 3 x 5, cut it off and adhere it to the front of the crayon box.  Later, I changed my mind and wanted the brackets to be cut out of the crayon box, so I hid everything except the brackets.  I placed it where I wanted it on the crayon box, then grouped them together.  (In retrospect, it would have been easier to use just the brackets themselves from page 58, but I didn’t think of it at the time!!)

 

The number strip is also from Art Philosophy; it’s the font layer found on page 61, sized to .90 high.  The font is AP, too, cut at less than half an inch! (.45)  The patterned paper and brown cardstock are both from CTMH Stella paper pack.

After we move back home, get the house clean and life restored to near-normal, I will be gathering names, phone numbers, account numbers, policy numbers, etc. and writing them on 3 x 5 index cards and putting them in this box.  The back of the box will get a nice, strong magnet and the box will reside on the side of our refrigerator!  If we ever have another emergency, all the contact information we need will be all in one place and easy to find.
