My “Grandpa”

Back in April, I started knitting myself a sweater, the Grandpa Cardigan by Joji Locatelli.  I totally love it!  Just my thing – lots of cables!  and I’m knitting it in one of my favorite yarns, Madelinetosh Tosh DK.  It’s coming along slowly because I’m mostly working on Christmas knitting.  This is how far I’ve gotten.  I finished the first sleeve this morning. It’s not brown as it appears in this picture.  It’s actually a very pretty black/red.  The color is called Tart.  You can see the color better in this post.

I knitted the sleeve caps one right after the other on different needles.  It’s a construction I’ve never done before, a “set in” sleeve that isn’t really set in.  You pick up stitches all around the armhole and knit a little more than half of them, turn and do a bunch of short rows back and forth picking up an extra stitch each time until you’ve picked up all the stitches and have a sleeve cap, then knit down the sleeve in the round.  Interesting!  and you don’t have to sew in the sleeve.

So one more sleeve, then the button bands and collar.  It’ll be so pretty!!

About Evelyn

I created this little blog so that I could have a place to show different crafts that I make for my family, my friends, my students, and myself! I have always enjoyed crafting. I particularly love paper and wool, and that's what I'm currently working with.
