The Merry Christmas Challenge – July, 2018

There are a couple of changes to the Merry Christmas Challenge Blog starting this month.  First, there are no more optional themes – it’s just Always Anything Goes – and the challenges will run for an entire month starting on the 15th of the month.  So, here is my project for July!  Surprise!  It’s cards!  🙂

I made a million of these sleds from Create a Critter 2 (and still have many left) so I decided to put them to good use on a couple of Christmas cards. The snowflakes and scallop border are punches.

Lets see what you create this month.  Show us your Christmas projects at The Merry Christmas Challenge Blog.  You can link up three times during the month!

Cut it Up – Under the Sea

We’re exploring undersea worlds with Cut it Up’s Under the Sea challenge using lovely files from our sponsor, The Cutting Cafe!
I made a cute little mini using the Mixed Shape Album Book Template  and the Under the Sea Printable Stamp Set

First I looked through all my blue scraps of paper to find five that looked nice together.  The Under the Sea stamp set includes some seaweed images so I imported those into Silhouette Design Studio as vectors.  To get the seaweed cutouts on each page, I laid the seaweed on top of the page making sure a little of the seaweed protruded over the bottom of the page, selected both, and chose Object, Modify, Subtract.

I wanted the cutouts to be a surprise on each page, so I positioned them so you couldn’t see the one on the next page, aligning all their left sides to make sure they were hidden.I brought in the cute little seahorses as vectors, too, and fiddled around with them to make them just two layers.  Here are the rest of the pages.

Well, that was a ton of fun!!  🙂  Hope you join us on our undersea adventures at Cut it Up.  You could win three images of your choice from The Cutting Cafe!

Pause Dream Enjoy Challenge #28 – Anything Goes

No excuse not to get crafty because this week at Pause Dream Enjoy challenges, anything goes!!  So I made this awesome Note Pad Holder from Dreaming Tree, but I put some small envelopes in it.  It’s a free file (and there are a ton more  free files over there, so if you haven’t checked them out already, you should go!!)

For some reason I have several of these envelopes that measure 4 x 5.5.  I don’t know where I picked them up, but they’re smaller than an A2 size card.  I have to specifically make 3.75″ by 5.25″ cards to fit them, so I want to keep them separate from my A2s.

I think that flower is so lovely, don’t you?

Come on over and show us what you created this week!!  See you over there at Pause Dream Enjoy challenge blog!

Die Cuttin’ Divas – Add a Circle

The challenge this week at Die Cuttin’ Divas is to Add a Circle.  I made a birthday card for my sister which has numerous circles on it!  The sunflower is from the Sweet Treats Cricut cartridge. I embossed it with a Happy Birthday embossing folder, but it’s a little hard to see in the photos.

How will you incorporate circles?  We can’t wait to see!  Lawn Fawn is our sponsor this week!!  Link up your circle project at Die Cuttin’ Divas for a chance to win!

Die Cuttin’ Divas – July 2018 sketch challenge

Here’s the latest sketch by Georgiana at Die Cuttin’ Divas!

I used the cover from this empty paper pad for the tags; I love doing that!  Makes me feel like I really got my money’s worth!  🙂

I made two the same.  I followed the sketch except for a sentiment so I could use the cards for any occasion.  The tag die and the flower die are both from CAS-ual Fridays Stamps, who coincidentally is our sponsor this week!  I trimmed the center strip with a Stampin’ Up punch to make the flag end and a border punch to finish that mat.

We hope you join us for this sketch challenge!  You could win:Evelyn

Cut it Up – Tag! You’re It!

Time for another challenge from Cut it Up!  This time around, we’re asking you to create a tag.  Our awesome sponsor, CAS-ual Fridays Stamps, sent us some dies to work with.  We’re so appreciative of their generosity.   I got the Scallop Tags and the 4 Petals Fri-Dies!  I had so much fun creating with them.

I knew I wanted to make a shaker tag.  There are two Scallop Tags that come connected by thin metal pieces, and they happen to be perfectly centered to one another.  So before I cut them apart, I cut out one patterned paper and several green papers.  That way, I didn’t have to add any foam or anything to make the shaker.  You can see the layers here. The pretty flower is made with the 4 Petals dies, and the sequins inside the shaker are from CAS-ual Fridays, too.  They’re the Sistahood Sparkle, Limited Edition, and no longer available.

All the papers are from my scraps file.  The sentiment is from the Hope Ribbon collection, also from CAS-ual Fridays Stamps.  It’s a breast cancer awareness set but this sentiment is universal!  🙂

Well, after I had cut out all those green layers I had lots of cute little green scalloped tags left on my desk.  I couldn’t waste them!!  and the 4 Petals dies could very easily make poinsettias and I could always use Christmas tags . . .  So – and here’s the clever part – to save some time, I didn’t disconnect the two petal dies; I kept them together and taped red and green paper together.  That way, I cut my cutting time in half!!  🙂

The stamps used on the tags are from the Tags, Glorious Tags set from Unity Stamp Company.

We hope you make a tag or two and link it to our challenge.  You have until July 11th – two weeks – to link up.  You could win a $15 gift certificate from CAS-ual Fridays Stamps!

PDE Challenges #26 – Mermaids

Our challenge this week at Pause Dream Enjoy Challenges is Mermaids!  And they are such fun!  Unless you’re talking about the mermaids in the Harry Potter movies, which I’m re-watching for the hundredth time for background “noise” while I knit and craft!  🙂  Those merpeople are just plain scary!!But the one on the stained glass window in the Hogwarts castle is beautiful.  I printed out a picture from Google Images and cut it out, with other layers, using the Stitched Rectangle dies from Lil’ Inkers and made a card with a sentiment from Newton’s Day Dream from Newton’s Nook.  The orange patterned paper is from Pink and Main’s Take Flight paper pad.  It was underwhelming. So I decided to try again.  I removed the image and the orange layer and backed them with black.  That looked much better to my eye.  Then I just put that on a small card that measures just 3 1/2″ x 4 1/2″.  It’s a cutie!  I’m satisfied now!  🙂   Less was more. That’s my mermaid project!  Now let’s see yours.  Link to PDE Challenges here.

Die Cuttin’ Divas – Butterflies

Our theme this week at Die Cuttin’ Divas is butterflies!  There are so many beautiful butterfly cuts, but I always go back to this favorite from Designs on Cloud 9.  That online store is out of business now, but the owner, Michelle Currie (who now owns Pink and Main), has made some of her SVGs available on the silhouette store and luckily, this Butterfly Card was one of them.  You can get it here.

I love this butterfly so much!  You can see other projects I made with the same cut here, here, here, and here!    I love the colors I chose this time around (if I do say so myself!! 🙂 )

The sentiment is from the Go Green stamp set from Pink by Design.

Our sponsor this week is SVG Cutting Files, who are offering a gift certificate!  Why don’t you join us and get in the running?

The Merry Christmas Challenge #25 – Memories

The optional Merry Christmas Challenge this week is Memories.  It could be photo cards, scrapbook pages/albums, anything like that.  I made a cute little photo stand just by folding a piece of cardstock in half and adding an adorable die cut to it.  Oh, and the photo, of course!

The adorable reindeer is called Peeking Reindeer from Little Scraps of Heaven Designs.  The red dotted paper is from the Snow Fun 6 x 6 paper pack by Carta Bella.

What memories will you share this week at The Merry Christmas Challenge?

Die Cuttin’ Divas – Embossing

The challenge this week at Die Cuttin’ Divas is embossing.  I chose heat embossing for this challenge – something I rarely use, so I challenged myself!

The focal image is from the Cricut cartridge, Sweet Treats, and the sentiment is from So Many Birthdays by Jaded Blossom.  I used Ranger white embossing powder.  This card is for my Aunt, who is having a birthday in late June. The papers that look black are actually dark brown – like chocolate icing!  Yum!!  🙂

Hope you can join in our Embossing challenge.  Leslie, one of my design team sisters, is sponsoring this challenge!
