Spring is my favorite season. I love all the birds, flowers, and the smell of the rain. We’re celebrating the return of spring over at Cut it Up for this challenge. Our sponsor, Taylored Expressions, gave us product to work with, a beautiful stamp, Spring Spray, and its coordinating die. If you follow me, you know that I’m not the world’s greatest colorer. My design team sisters are very, very talented at coloring so you should definitely go over to Cut it Up and check out what they did with this amazing set. I, however, will go to great lengths not to have to color up a stamp because I just know it’ll fizzle. So I tried every technique that I know of for using stamps that does not really involve coloring. I did some resist heat embossing, some smooshing, some paper towel coloring, some water coloring, some splattering. I wound up with several flower images, most of which weren’t too bad!
I used the nicest one to make a panel for a spring basket, using the free Tulip Tree Basket from Dreaming Tree. This one I think I used heat embossing, water color pencils, and splattering.
I used old 12 x 24″ Cricut paper for the basket itself because I had to enlarge it quite a bit to accommodate the size of the stamped image I had. It turned out pretty nice, although I had a gluing accident (don’t look at the back side of the basket!!) I used a scallop border punch for the handle.
There were lots of leftover “tries” that I really didn’t want to waste, so I made note cards with the rest of them. A couple I didn’t even color so I needed good contrasting patterned paper to put them on. The first one is just stamped on white card stock; the second is heat embossed.
This one was heat embossing + smooshing. The colors came out kind of muddy. 🤷🏻♀️
This one is my favorite, I think. Heat embossed and inked. I mounted it on embossed white card stock.
That left me with the paper towel one and two pretty ugly inked images.
I layered the bluish one on top of the pinkish one and glued them on top of the paper towel one.
Those are all my spring projects! Head on over to Cut it Up to see what the other team members made, then link up your own spring project. You could win a $25 gift certificate to Taylored Expressions!
