Cut it Up – Anything Goes!

We’re living on the edge this challenge at Cut it Up with a rare Anything Goes challenge! I really tried to make something other than a card, but I have two birthdays in January that were coming up really fast so I decided to get a start on the cards I need for 2022.

I wanted to use my Cricut and chose the Suburbia cartridge. It looked easy – the people images are silhouettes. Or so I thought!

Instead of having the person in black, they have it backwards. The whole silhouette, including the person, is cut using colored paper and the arms, legs, and head are then cut in black and glued on top. Backwards, right?

But I didn’t realize it when I started cutting, and then I just went with it. I cut the doll in the pink dress, Peggy, on flip. The other doll is Susan.

I really went retro with these cards. I cut the dolls out using my Cricut Expression. The papers are from very, very old pads, Stampin’ Up All Abloom Designer Series Paper Stack and Theresa Collins Family Stories. The HB stamp on the yellow cards is from an old Close to My Heart stamp collection called Just to Say (lots of good, general sentiments on that one!) and the script stamp on the pink cards is from the Jaded Blossom So Many Birthdays stamp set. The mats are cut using Newton’s Nook Framework Die. Newton’s Nook is our sponsor for this challenge. The prize is a $20 store credit, by the way!!

I actually made twelve cards, six of each, so most of my female family and friends will get one of these for their birthday this year:

After gluing all those little pieces to the dolls, I was annoyed that I had to use a Sharpie around all the edges so the colored paper didn’t show. So using the Grab program on my Mac (screen shot app), Silhouette Design Space, and Sure Cuts A Lot, I made svgs of Susan and Peggy for my future use. The bodies are black as they should be and the clothes are separate to be glued on top. I love tinkering around to get what I need!! 😊

So from now on when I want to cut Peggy, I’ll only have one piece go glue on, not six!

I hope you join us for Anything Goes!!

About Evelyn

I created this little blog so that I could have a place to show different crafts that I make for my family, my friends, my students, and myself! I have always enjoyed crafting. I particularly love paper and wool, and that's what I'm currently working with.

Such a clever work-around Evelyn – I love your ingenuity! I don’t have those particular tools or software but I really enjoyed reading about your process :o) Nancy J

  4. These are all stunning and you are so clever to be able to change the images around – yes it does make sense to have the body under the clothes!!
