Cut it Up – Birthday Cards!

ciuheader4transparentWe always need birthday cards, and that’s the theme this time around at Cut it Up Challenge Blog.  Coincidentally, today (February 24th) would have been my father’s 98th birthday!
Happy Birthday, Daddy!  🙂

This card is for a long-time friend of mine.

img_3190img_3192I was inspired by this card, but I prefer to use my Silhouette or Cricut rather than physical dies because they’re so much more versatile.  (Besides, it’s fun to design in the Silhouette Design Studio software, as I’m sure you’re sick of hearing me say!!)  So I went about trying to make something similar.

The flower I used to make the card front is the very center of the Blooming Mum file from My Scrap Chick.  I just duplicated and spaced it until I liked the look.   The focal image flower is from the Silhouette library, simply called “flower.”

img_3191It’s so pretty, isn’t it?  I made two offsets and popped it up on some foam tape, tucked a ribbon underneath, and then added little Ki rhinestones to the center of each cutout flower.  The sentiment is on the inside.  It’s from my fall-to Happy Birthday stamp set, So Many Birthdays, from Jaded Blossom.  I just love that set, because it simply says Happy Birthday in different fonts, enough to match the mood of any birthday card I make.img_3195I hope you link up your birthday card creation to Cut it Up.  Our sponsor this time is Pink and Main.  They’ve donated a $20 store credit!  Woo, h00!

Ooh, I see sunshine on a cloudy day! This is so lovely and cheery with those sparkly stars in the middle of the flower! Very festive!

So pretty and the yellow is so uplifting.

  6. Very pretty! I sure do like those flower cut outs, especially with the gem in the center of each one.

Yellow is such a fab yet not enough used card color. I think your card has an air of retro with those simple designed flowers on the background, love this style.
Ps: i had intended to add the name of the white ink once I got home from a visit to my parents, but totally forgot. I’ve used Hero hues from Hero Arts. My other white inks have been more like very subtle chalk, more translucent than white on dark backgrounds. My new ink dries really slowly, but I don’t find it to be a problem:)

I totally agree with you on the Silhouette Machine/Program! I think it ROCKS and can be used for soooo many things! LOVE the background – your card is so pretty!

Oh wowzers! It’s so pretty! I have never thought of duplicating a die in Design Space to may my own cut out overlay! How smart is that?! I will be trying this for sure.
