We’re celebrating National Popcorn month this week at Die Cuttin’ Divas! Our challenge is to make a project that is inspired by a movie, and you must tell what movie it is.
I’m not a real big fan of movies. They take too long! I always have to be doing something else when a movie is on, like read a magazine, knit, or do paper crafting. But I do have some favorite movies. One of them is My Cousin Vinny. I love everything about it and it never fails to make me laugh. Marisa Tomei won a very well-deserved Oscar for her role as Mona Lisa Vito. (Even the names are great! We had twin neighbors growing up — one was named Mona and the other one was Lisa!!)
There’s one scene where Vinny, a city-boy, is invited to go hunting. He’s asking his girlfriend, Mona, what pants he should wear. This is her reply:
“Imagine you’re a deer. You’re prancing along. You get thirsty. You spot a little brook. You put your little deer lips down to the cool, clear water. BAM! A f—in’ bullet rips off part of your head! Your brains are laying on the ground in little bloody pieces! Now I ask you: Would you give a f— what kind of pants the son of a b—- who shot you was wearing?!”
Her delivery is just perfect. (You can watch the scene on Youtube here if you’re interested.)
That scene and this card by Cindy from In Love With Paper were the inspiration for my card.
I used my Wildlife Cricut cartridge for this one. I just sponged the ground with some Tim Holtz distress ink to make it a different color brown than the deer. The gorgeous paper is from the DCWV Lodge stack. It already had that beautiful tree on it, so I really had nothing else to do with the background. The sentiment is a Spellbinders die called Sentiments One. The set also contains “Congratulations” and “Best Wishes.” They’re great to have on hand, but the tiny dots for the “i”s are easy to lose on your desk!
This card is a twisted easel. It’s held open by acorns from the Art Philosophy cartridge.
