March is a windy month. I find wind to be exhilarating!! Windy is our theme this time at Cut it Up Challenges. Your project must have a moving component.
One of our sponsors for this challenge is Fleurette Bloom, and she graciously gave us some images to work with. I chose the beautiful koi fish from the Japanese Garden. I had so much fun with this one!! I’ve been dying to use the pinwheel card on the Wild Card cartridge (page 51) ever since I found out what it was. This seemed like the perfect opportunity. I have four koi fish jumping in and out of the “water” on my card. Look!
The wave border is from page 54 of Give a Hoot Cricut cartridge, and the bow is from Artiste, page 55.
I cut the moving part – the circle – out on my Silhouette. Here’s how I did it:
First I cut out the circle from Wild card and measured it, and made the same size circle in Silhouette. I measured how far “in” the image had to be to show up in the hole on the front of the card. I made a square that same size, copied and pasted until I had four of them and arranged them at 12, 3, 6 and 9 on the big circle. Then I drew a circle the same size as the hole on the card and put a fish in it. Copied and pasted so I had four and rotated them to 90, 180, and 270 degrees, then put them just below each square on the big circle. All I needed now was the little circle in the center for my brad to go through, printed just the fish, cut out just the large circle and tiny circle, and voila!! Jumping fish for my card!
Isn’t it gorgeous!?! And I didn’t even have to color it myself, thank goodness! I could never do it justice.
We actually have two sponsors this time, Fleurette Bloom is offering a $10 gift card, and As Cute as a Button is donating a $20 coupon code. So come on over and play at Cut it Up. Maybe your Windy project (with a movable component) will win!!

Brilliant! I saw a set on sale at Designs on Cloud 9 but opted not to get it since I had personally made one yet have never used it. Hummm….wobble or spinner or wheel for me. Thank you for the inspiration AND I love fish and anything to do with water…haha..but you know that!
Such a creative idea to use a brad & a circle for wonderful movement.
