V-A-C-A-TION! We’re gonna have a ball! Do you remember that song? Vacations are the theme of this week’s challenge over at Paper Crafting World. It was a theme chosen by ME because my husband and I are going on a vacation this year! Most years we don’t do anything, but every couple of years we get that itch to go someplace we haven’t been before and see things we haven’t seen before, and we got that itch this year.
Here is a hint as to where we’re going.
In 2000, my daughter and I went to Switzerland with the Girl Scouts. I had a travel journal that I wrote in every night, saying what we did, where we went, what we saw, what we ate, how I felt about it. . . I wanted to get it all down before I forgot the details. The paper was acid-free so that I could just tear the pages out and scrap them right along with the photos. That really worked out well because I didn’t have to remember, didn’t have to type something up, and I finally had journaling in my own handwriting. I want to do the same thing with this vacation, so I made this little vacation journal to bring along:
You can see by the clips that it’s a project that is not meant to be a permanent thing. It will be deconstructed when I make our vacation scrapbook so I can use the pages as I did for my Switzerland journal. The cover can be included in the scrapbook, too, either as is, or I can use the Cricut spatula to scrape off the elements I want to use, like the bear and the trees. I started with a cereal box cut to 7.25 x 6 inches for the covers. They’re covered in blue card stock from Staples using just a glue stick. The pages are white card stock. The bear is 3 inches. The font for “vacation journal” is Hand Writing Mutlu, and for Banff, I used a stencil font from Denise’s scrapbooking room.
This is the Great Outdoors Black Bear set from Paper Crafting World. It includes grass for the bear to sit on, but I unchecked the “keep proportions” box in Sure Cuts a Lot, stretched the grass vertically and cut it out using brown paper to make a mountain instead because Banff is nestled between mountains. I’m not sure if they have black bears there, but I do know they have grizzlies. I’ve never seen one, so I hope to on this trip, but from far away!!
We’d love to see your vacation projects! Please link them up at PCW!

Great little book to journal in. I like that it can be pulled apart and put in your scrapbook later on. Thanks for the great idea.
Love your journal and I love Banff. Are you from Canada? I am going to Jasper in Oct for a Scrap Camp for the weekend and can hardly wait. Thanks for sharing your project..
Hi, Jenny,
No, I’m not from Canada. I’m originally from New Jersey and now live in Virginia. I can’t wait to go to Banff; I know I’m going to love it, too!
