Wizard of Oz album

My daughter played Dorothy in her 6th grade play, The Wizard of Oz.  I was trying to think of a good way to scrap all the pictures without taking up pages and pages in her album.       I considered a waterfall element, serious cropping, then finally came across this post.  Almost halfway down is a layout entitled “Acapulco” on which Janette Kincaid hid a mini-album within the page by using a 12 X 12 foam square instead of cardstock.  I decided to make not a mini-album but an 8X8.  I have lots of white 8X8 pages leftover from my Christmas albums, plus I have a YourStory book binder that I’ve never used.

I looked all over the internet for a simple SVG file of the characters, and couldn’t find any I liked well enough, so I decided to look at my cartridges.  I made Dorothy, the Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion all from Paper Dolls Dress Up!

This is how I did it:

I used the blackout body on page 10 for all of the dolls, all cut at 7 inches.  For faces, I started with a stamp from Peachy Keen stamps, then I embellished them following the directions on this post from Beanie’s Tag You’re It and added cheek blush to match the character.  Dorothy – For her blue gingham dress I cut the blackout of Mrs. Claus’ apron from page 54.  For her white shirt, I used the “headwear” cut on page 49, which is just a plain cat-suit kind of outfit.   That also gave her white tights, which I thought looked nice.  I chose the shoes on page 56 for her ruby slippers, and the braids from the Indian Girl on page 42 for her hair, adding cute bows.

Scarecrow – I used the pants, shirt, hat, hair, and shoes from the Pioneer Boy on page 45.  I cut the hat two times so I could put  a blue stripe on it.  I cut strips of tan paper and taped it here and there for straw.

Tinman –  Outfit 2 on page 50.  For his hat, I used the clown hat on page 39, but then I cut it down to look like a funnel.

Lion – Again, I used Outfit 2 on page 50, including the “headwear” feature, which is the tail.  I cut his mane twice — once the same color as the outfit to use for his face and the second time I used a lighter color for the mane.   I added some details with chalks.

I made the pages using these paper dolls and some stickers that I had been saving since 1994!  The round stickers are unidentified.  The shaped characters are Paper House Productions Mini Cutouts. The rainbow on the first page is from Hello Kitty Greetings.

To make the YourStory book, I

first scored all the pages at 1/4 inch to make the pages turn better.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I made a pocket using lots of red terrifically tacky tape and some brads, then inserted the album into the pocket.
